If you are a handcrafted jewelry artisan, handmade jewelry designer, jewelry wholesaler or you purchase unique jewelry from wholesale jewelry suppliers, you need to have your own website that will attract new clients and increase your handmade jewelry sales. You have probably had the dream to sell your unique jewelry online and with technology today there is nothing standing in your way.

You will need more than one property online. A handcrafted jewelry website all by itself, without an advertising budget and no knowledge of internet marketing or search engine optimization, will sit idle with no traffic for a very long time. You need to create other sites anywhere you can linking back to your main site and take advantage of every free service where you can create a profile such as Twitter, Facebook and other social websites. Always try to get a link pointing to something on your site. Basically anywhere that will let you sell or promote your handcrafted jewelry is where you want to be.

When you type handmade jewelry into Google you get over 3 million results. Next try handmade jewelry forum to find 300,000 results. There are obviously communities out there for handmade jewelry artisans. Join some and participate in handcrafted jewelry forums. Those communities should lead you to your customers if you are willing to invest the time. Online marketing requires patience so do not expect overnight results. Get your name out there and keep working. Write about your handcrafted jewelry, post photos of your handmade earrings and handcrafted bracelets, join social networks and groups to build your contacts. Just decide that you are going to do whatever it takes to learn everything you need to know and you will actually be building a successful handmade jewelry business online.

Question by iamme210: How would you start marketing handmade jewelry?
My mom makes handmade jewelry out of sterling silver and natural stones, and most recently enamel. She is always receiving complements on her pieces, and has had one bracelet featured in a jewelry magazine, as well as a few pieces in galleries. But she wants to start selling them on a larger basis, how could she start doing that? Does anyone know where she can find a representative? Thanks!

Rather than trying to find a representative (that could be difficult to find or costly), I would start locally. Take samples to locally owned businesses that might sell that type of jewelery product and see if they would be interested in selling it. It could be on a consignment basis. Another option would be to rent a booth at a craft fair or event… there are a lot of Christmas opportunities coming up. Also a website might be a good idea. You could sell online, but it’s also a good marketing tool. That way when you have opportunities to sell or make a sale, you can give out your contact and website to encourage further sales. If you are successful on a smaller scale, it will probably naturally progress and new opportunities will come along to expand. Good luck!

I just don’t know where to look, can internet sites be trusted? Also, I want a ring thats actually worth something, but I like the idea of a ruby ring, and they don’t seem to be worth much at all.

What era, in your opinion has the best rings?

Look for antique stores via the net then go to the local ones 1910-35 seem to be more ornate as well as the mid 1800. Rubies are worth less then diamonds but settings also play a role.

When looking at antique shops you will find prices vary so shop around enjoy the hunt and pick what will appeal to you long term a wedding ring etc. is meant to be a life time purchase not an investment opportunity.
