Q&A: How much would you pay for a handmade baby blanket?

January 23rd, 2012 Posted in Handmade Blankets Tags: , , , ,

Question by befuddled: How much would you pay for a handmade baby blanket?
I crochet baby blankets and I am thinking about trying to sell them online. How much would you be willing to pay for a handmade item such as this? I’m pretty talented and can do a wide variety of patterns, many that I have made up myself. I have sold many of my blankets in the past, some baby size and some queen size. They have sold for anywhere from $ 10.00 to $ 50.00. What do you think?

How much should I sell my handmade dresses for on Etsey.com?

Question by Erin: How much should I sell my handmade dresses for on Etsey.com?
i sew a lot and I’m going to be selling things on etsey.com like purses and different dresses. I often get my fabric at joannes or if I want something else I go onto fabric.com. How much should I sell my dresses… should I look at how much the fabric costs? How long it took me to make? How unique the piece is? I have no clue what to start with and I have different pieces like a reniassance dress, evening dresses, summer dresses etc.

The cost of all materials plus at least $ 10 per hour until you build a reputation that you can up your hourly fee. Be sure to buy fabric on sale or with Joann’s coupon that comes in the Sunday paper every week to keep costs down.

Would you buy awesome handmade Christmas cards off eBay? How much would you pay?

Question by Amanda: Would you buy awesome handmade Christmas cards off eBay? How much would you pay?
Would you buy awesome handmade Christmas cards off of craigslist.com or eBay.com?

If you would…how much would you expect or want to pay for them?

How many would you think you would want? Like…how many cards would you think a set of handmade Christmas cards would have?

What would you like to see on you Christmas cards? Would you prefer them to be more traditional with reds and greens etc. Or would like “artsy” type ones with all colors (not just the basic Christmas colors). Would you like to see “elegant” type ones with silver and gold and maybe light blues?

Im thinking about making some and trying to sell them….
(Looking for ideas and whatnot)

I would buy handmade christmas cards from online. I think it’s cuter than buying impersonal cards from the store. In handmade packages of cards, I’ve seen them usually come with anywhere from 4-10 cards each. I would sell them for 50cents to a dollar a card, depending on how many you put in a package. You have to make some profit off them, considering you put a lot of work into them most likely, and in order to afford new materials. I think you could market all three of those ideas, whether traditional, artsy, or elegant. Everyone has different tastes.

PS-If you do end up making them, I suggest trying to sell them on Etsy.com as well. Etsy is sort of like an Ebay, but it is for homemade crafts.

Question by Emperor: How much is this handmade necklace worth?
I Plan on selling it on Ebay but I don’t know how much I will be able to sell it for.The main stone is coral and it has two stones made of jade and two more which are turquoise.I saw similar necklaces going within 100-200 dollars. The rest of the necklace is made of the same material. Here are the pictures:

Question by HeartNote: How much would you charge for a handmade Christmas ornament?
I’m currently making some Christmas ornaments- they are clear with scenes made of hand painted clay inside them. I’m an artist and these do look professional. I was thinking of selling them for a piece at craft fairs.

If you are actually doing this for your regular income, you need to figure out the hours it takes to make one and the amount you want to make per hour. Then add the cost of the materials to the cost of the labor and charge that. I’m afraid you will find that you cannot easily find customers willing to pay that kind of price. However, your chances are better if you use high quality materials and can get into a juried craft show or gallery with a good following.

You need a license in most places if you open a storefront, but if you just rent booth space at a show, you do not. You may be asked to report your sales so that the state can collect sales tax, but if you do not have a tax id number, and you are not making a large amount of money on craft sales per year, it is not necessary since you paid the sales tax on the materials.

Question by mn15: How much to charge for handmade christmas cards?
So, i am making about 5o christmas cards for a neighbor and i was wondering how much to charge for each card…or everything all together

Best answer:

Answer by Jen
Depending on how much work and supplies you are using. I work at a store that sells some handmade cards and we charge around for an individual card. I wouldn’t go below 3 or 4 dollars for them, i probably wouldn’t charge more than 7 for them
