How can I find the value of my antique porcelain set?

January 18th, 2012 Posted in Antique Porcelain Tags: , , ,

Question by Deleanu P: How can I find the value of my antique porcelain set?
I have a set of old Rosenthal porcelain and I would like to know if there is a way to get an estimate on how much it is worth. I do not know exactly how old it is but it dates back to at least the 1930′s. I haven’t had much luck getting an appraisal from the local ”experts” other than it’s old so I decided to try my luck online.

So is there any forum with people who specialise in identifying such antiques? Thank you for your answers

Try www.antique-china-porcelain-
collectibles.com.

There are also books that value collectibles – they might or might not have china sets in them. Ask at your local public library for books valuing collectibles. You can ask books specifically valuing china too, but that’s not too likely.

Question by ALT*: Where can I find an antique coffee table?
I would like a vintage coffee table for my new living room. It would be great if it had rounded edges and nice details… but anything is better than nothing. Also, not too expensive!

Go to a local antique store and see their selection of books on collectible glassware, dinnerware, and flatware. Go to B&N or Borders and check books on the collectibles section. See if you bump into something. if the books are too expensive, search and request them from the local library. If no data is available, because they are foreign, research under foreign collectibles.

My mom recently told me that the twin bed that I have is an antique. I don’t know squat about antiques so, I don’t know what style I have to know how to describe it. any help. besides the library or local antiques dealers they don’t do appraisals in my area. thanks

Can you post a picture of it?
You could check the back of the headboard and the inside of the side rails to see if there is anything to identify the manufacturer or craftsman’s name. It may even have an item number imprinted. It would at least help you to do some research. Or take a picture and send it to a dealer to help you at least identify the style or period even if they don’t do the appraisal. An antique would be 100 years old..

Good luck.

Question by sherry f: I’m trying to find out a site where I can research prices of Antique wall clocks?
I have an antique vienna wall clock trying to find out type and value. Looks familure to gustav becker clocks. Mantle piece on top has a distinctive lians head (circle) protruding in center of wood plus it has a picture of what looks like a nun or a biblical woomen in center of primary peak (in Mantle) I estimate that it is from 1880-1900 time frame. Anyone heard of such design? or know of anyone who may, can send picture.

I would like to find an antique doll appraiser and doll hospital in the southern California area?

April 4th, 2011 Posted in Antique Doll Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Question by guitarstrummin: I would like to find an antique doll appraiser and doll hospital in the southern California area?
I have an antique doll, approximately 100 years old, which I would like to have appraised. I would also like to locate a doll hospital to have the eyes put back in place, they aren’t broke, just fell out of the socket and into the head. Any suggestions (southern California area) for an antique doll appraiser and/or doll hospital? The Antiques Road Show does not have a trip scheduled in California at this time.

I have a book called “Doll Directory ” A guide to U/S. Doll Museums By Katherine Witt. It list five places in California
Angels Attic 310-394-8331 S.Monica

others are in Platerville, Tarzana, Campbell. Tahoe City

I will say that if the eyes have fallen out and rolling around the head, the glass is very fragile, I think the doll should have what we call a pate under the wig, carefully lift the wig do not pull from the back with an exto knife cut around the circle pull up the pate and take the eyes out and wrap in soft tissue. If its broken save every scrap, because I can glue those eyes back to the full position, so most should be able to.

If you look on the back of the head there will be a mark maybe a mold number measure the doll. Then you can look up the dolls maker by the mold number and mark then cross reference it in the Blue Book of Doll values by Jan Foulk. Boarders carries those books stop by and have a cup of coffee and look up your doll and put the book back,

Hope this helps

Try smaller boutique shops. You can also build an amazon store – that would be great advertising. Also try crate & barrel, Pier 1, and pottery barn.

Q&A: I bought a used handmade wicker basket, signed and dated on the bottom. How can I find out about the artist?

Question by Sue from Maple Grove: I bought a used handmade wicker basket, signed and dated on the bottom. How can I find out about the artist?
It’s a terrific basket, with one handle that opens to a teardrop shape on each side, attached in two places on each side, so it moves. Very clever! It is signed “C. Ryks ’89″.

Thanks in advance to all of you.
