Question by Amber M: Antique Vase?
I have a purple vase that is about 2 feet tall, made of glass. It looks hand made. I wish I could take a picture. It sat on a millionaire’s table for years… Is there any way that I can get an appraisal for free online? I probably have to have a pic….

I am sorry but you should get a photgraph of your vase.
It will help you greatly in identifying your piece and it’s worth.

You may also have a piece of Murano glass which can be worth quite a lot. Since you have stated that you obtained your piece from a wealthy individual it could be a piece
of Murano Glass.
Initially each piece that I owned came with the traditional Murano authenticity sticker and was signed (engraved) by the glass artist as well. Not any longer, although most of my pieces are from artisans in Murano and they are signed,
Some of my older pieces are before the artists were accustomed to signing their work.

You can do one of two things to determine if you have a Original Venetian Glass piece.
One, is study using the methods that I have given you below as well as going in person to examine Authentic pieces yourself.
Two, would be to take your glass to a reputable dealer who sells or is the intermediary for selling this glass. They usually do not have a problem in helping others in determing the Authenticity.

In closing Murano glass collecting is a rewarding hobby, which can be passed on from generation to generation much like the techniques and traditions of the Muraro Masters.

A statement that the appraiser cannot act as an advocate or negotiator in disputes over appraised goods.

If you have the time, you could also go to your local library and select a few different books. There are several available and you’ll be able to compare information and prices.
Go to the book store in the antiques section. I often find books that help in identifying the piece, style and maker.

Using Vases As Ornamental Centerpieces At Home

For thousands of years now, vases have become part of the household as decorative accessories. It seems that a home’s interior is never complete without one standing in a corner and another placed on top of a shelf. Vases are also used as centerpieces for most homes. You can either be contented with a traditional flower arranger, or, you can come up with other decorative ideas to improve the look of your home.

While the color, size, and shape of the vase are the usual considerations when choosing what vase to utilize as a centerpiece, you should also keep in mind that vases are made from different types of materials. The most common types of vases are ceramic and glass although there are vases made of wood and metal as well. Also, make sure that your vase of choice matches with the theme of the room you are planning to place it in.

Flower vases come in different shapes and sizes. Choose flowers that will complement with these two factors. For instance, if you have a vase with a wide opening, consider putting flowers that have large petals in it such as lilies, dahlias, and hydrangea. For cylindrical shaped vases, the types of flowers that will look perfect in them are those with long single stems like rose buds and sunflowers.

Adding accent to a vase decoration is also a good idea. You can achieve this by placing other vases near it. However, instead of flowers, fill these vases with small ornamental pieces such as ferns, twigs, and dried leaves. You can also decorate it with colorful stones, pebbles, marbles, and pebbles. Make sure you choose a vase made of transparent material whether glass or plastic.

In arranging vases, consider what type of look you would want to achieve. Now, there are many ways to arrange vases depending on your approach. Base your approach on the three basic factors mentioned earlier which are the color, the size, and the shape. You can even base it on themes such as modern theme, classical theme, or romantic theme.

You don’t necessarily have to buy new vases just to make this all possible. In fact, there are probably a lot of antique vases in your home that you can use. Simply by using your creativity and imagination, you can achieve something totally unique, one that no one has never seen before.
